LPD Investigating Incident of Officer Firearm Discharge

The Lexington Police Department is investigating an incident where an officer discharged their firearm early this morning.  

At 4:48 a.m., on Sunday, January 22, 2023, officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Polo Club Boulevard for two male individuals breaking into vehicles. When an officer arrived, they observed an occupied vehicle and got out of their cruiser. The officer attempted to make contact with the vehicle and gave a verbal command to the driver. The driver accelerated in the direction of the officer, who responded by discharging their firearm. The suspect fled in the vehicle towards Polo Club Boulevard and has not been located at this time.

In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officer had their issued body-worn camera (BWC) activated and will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
