Devonia Avenue Homicide Investigation and Arrest

The Lexington Police Department has made an arrest following a homicide that occurred earlier this evening.

At around 5:57 p.m., on September 8, 2022, officers responded to the 100 block of Devonia Avenue for a disorder with a weapon. When officers arrived, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Steven Smith, 32, was arrested on the scene and charged with Murder, two counts of 1st degree Wanton Endangerment, 4th degree Assault (domestic violence), and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim and Steven Smith knew each other and lived at the same residence. The 4th degree assault charge is for assault of a third party.

The victim's name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner's Office. Smith is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
