Whitney Avenue Child Abuse Homicide Arrest

UPDATE: The nine-month-old victim has succumbed to their injuries, and the investigation is being conducted as a homicide. 

Syied Malik-Kawon Epps, 28, has also been charged with Murder-Domestic Violence. Epps is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Sy'kia Epps, nine months.

One person has been arrested following the assault of a nine-month-old child.

On Tuesday, July 25, at 5:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Whitney Avenue for a welfare check after a nine-month-old with life-threatening injuries arrived at a local hospital. During the investigation, detectives learned that the nine-month-old had been assaulted by their father.

Syied Malik-Kawon Epps, 28, was arrested on July 26, 2023, and charged with Assault 1st degree (domestic violence). Epps is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
