Town Branch Trail

Trail construction is underway! Work will occur on Old Frankfort Pike, Manchester St. and Forbes Road starting in April 2020. Once completed in 2022, these dedicated bike and pedestrian paths through the heart of the Distillery District will connect to Downtown and the Legacy Trail creating a 5.5-mile loop on the west and north-side of downtown while  providing access to the growing county-wide trails system. Visit the Trails Construction Updates page to stay up to date on current construction activities and traffic impacts.

Project Overview

Town Branch Trail (TBT) is a proposed shared-use greenway trail (paved route for pedestrians and bicyclists) that will connect Downtown Lexington with Masterson Station Park and the Distillery District, along with area neighborhoods, other parks, and historic sites as it follows the westward course of Lexington’s historic waterway, the Town Branch of Elkhorn Creek. The trail is a significant component of Lexington’s Bike and Pedestrian Plan (a broad network of bike facilities and trails planned for Fayette County).

TBT seeks to transform neglected or underutilized urban areas along our historic creek into a landscaped trail that will serve among other things:

  • recreation
  • commuting
  • the environment
  • tourism
  • businesses

In downtown, the Town Branch Trail runs through the Town Branch Commons. Once on the trail in downtown users will be able to access the Legacy Trail at both east and west ends of downtown. Learn more about the hub of this trail system by visiting the Town Branch Commons homepage.
