The Design and Construction Section of Engineering manages many types of public works projects. This section performs in-house engineering studies, land surveys and provides technical expertise and consulting services to many other City divisions. With about 150 active street, bikeway, sidewalk and sanitary sewer projects at any time, the engineers in this section also oversee private engineering firms that have been hired to design major projects. All projects are designed to the community’s standards and must provide the best solutions for the tax dollars spent.
After the design work is completed it is the responsibility of the construction group to get the projects built.

Sidewalk ramps
Engineering, along with Street and Roads and Traffic Engineering is working to update all sidewalk ramps to be in compliance with current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

Traffic and feasibility studies
Traffic and Feasibility studies are one of the driving factors for determining which projects are to be constructed in Fayette County.
