Building Inspection's goal is to ensure safe construction of projects by enforcing the Kentucky Building Code.
PLEASE NOTE: In response to COVID-19 and the CDC’s recommendations, until further notice, we will no longer accept in-person payments effective Monday, March 23, 2020. All Building Inspection permit payments can be done by credit card online. Checks and money orders for building permits and commercial landscape sureties can be mailed to the address below. Checks, money orders, and cash payments for building permits and commercial landscape sureties can be deposited at the LexServ dropbox in front of 200 East Main St. Payments deposited in the LexServ dropbox need to include the purpose of the payment and a copy of the emailed invoice or the record number and purpose of payment No permits will be issued until payment has been received.

Permit fees
Current permit fees took effect July 1, 2019. A comprehensive review and restructuring of building permit fees was included as a part of the recently approved city budget for FY20. The changes primarily impact the residential sector with some limited impact to the commercial sector.
Contractor registration
We have now registered over 1,600 contractors to work in Lexington-Fayette County under the new Contractors Registration Ordinance.
This ordinance requires all contractors to register with the Building Inspection. For additional information call us. Unregistered contractors cannot obtain building permits.
