Community centers

The city operates several community centers located throughout Lexington. Activities offered vary at each center but most include programming for youth as well as adults.

Castlewood and Dunbar community centers are closed for the 2019 season. William Wells Brown and Kenwick Community Centers are both open with summer hours.

Historical timeline

Black & Williams Neighborhood Center offers the Eldercrafters program for Fayette County residents 60 years of age and older.

The center also houses Adult & Tenant Services and the Youth Development Center.

Charles Young Center

The Charles Young Community Center programs include the Police Activities League, youth and teen activities, and senior activities. 

Dunbar Community Center

The Dunbar Community Center offers activities including arts & crafts, cooking classes, kickball, homework help, step aerobics and more.  The center also includes a weight room and is home to some Parks & Recreation administrative offices.

Gainesway Community Center

The Gainesway Community Center offers after-school programs for residents of Gainesway and the surrounding neighborhoods. Activities include homework assistance, a computer lab, a community garden, karate class, workshops, college tours and camps during school breaks.

The center also offers a Teen Job Club, which assists youth ages 16 – 18 with employment and developing work readiness skills. The Teen Job Club meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 – 7 p.m.

Kenwick Community Center

The Kenwick Community Center offers activities including Zumba, karate, indoor soccer, homework help, open gym, arts & crafts and more.
