In-person registration is available during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at the Dunbar Community Center until camp sessions are full. 

To secure your spot quickly, it is recommended that you bring a completed registration form.

Select camps offer partial scholarships based on need. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, fill out the following form and email it to parnold@lexingtonky.gov with all necessary documentation before registration begins. If you plan to apply in person, bring this information with you.

Please note:

  • Parks & Recreation 2022 summer camp opportunities will follow recommendations from the CDC, our local health department and the Kentucky Healthy at Work Childcare Guidelines.
  • Camps will be closed on June 20 and July 4 for city observed holidays.

Artkids Camp

At Artkids campers will enjoy instruction in arts and crafts, theatre, dance and music, and swim time daily! This year’s camp will take them to a galaxy far, far away as they will explore the arts through Star Wars.

Camp Kearney

Activities planned include sports, arts and crafts, archery, canoeing, team building and more. All campers must be dropped off and picked up at Jacobson Park each day. Campers may register for one session only. Campers must be in the age range as of Aug. 1, 2022.

Camp Kearney CIT (Counselor in Training)

Camp Kearney’s CIT (Counselor in Training) program is designed to help develop leadership skills in teens interested in working with children (ages 6 – 11). CIT's will work with the CIT Coordinator to learn the basics of child development, programming, and supervision procedures and policies. CIT's will also work with staff to develop and co-lead informal and formal activities with campers. All CIT’s must be dropped off and picked up at Jacobson Park each day and may register for up to three sessions only. CIT’s must be in the age range as of Aug. 1, 2022.

Castlewood Community Center Camp

Community Summer Teen Retreat

Ages 13 – 17
$10 per session

This program focuses on servicing and providing fun, exciting, innovative learning opportunities for teens in Lexington. A $10 fee will be applied to each week, totaling $30, with a form of reimbursement through gift cards, scholarships, and a banking opportunity. Pick up and drop off will be at Dunbar Community Center, located at 545 N. Upper St. Acceptance is limited to 30 students based upon responses to the application. Please be prepared to answer information regarding demographics, medical, parent contact information, family doctor information, and questions related specifically to the retreat. Additional documents will need to be signed by parent/guardian upon acceptance.

Dance Babies Camp

Dance Babies Camp is a half-day camp for little campers between 3 and 6 years old. This camp focuses on beginning dance in jazz, tap, ballet and creative movement. The camp will also include music games, arts and crafts and storytime. There is no swimming during Dance Babies.

Dance Kids Camp

Dance Kids Camp will include instruction in dance combinations of jazz, tap, ballet and hip hop. In addition, campers also will participate in arts and crafts and will swim daily. Previous dance training is not required.

Equestrian Camp at Masterson Station Park

Ages 10 – 13

Campers may only sign up for one session per summer.

This camp is geared to riders with no to very little riding experience. We will have two riders assigned to a horse, as partners and they will learn the beginnings of English riding and other details of what horse ownership entails. Campers will ride every day, as well as learn some entry-level horse husbandry skills and other fun activities. Helmets will be provided.

No lunchtime, so campers should eat before or after their sessions.

Play Golf Lex Junior Golf Camps are both fun and educational, focusing on athletic and golf-skill development. With programming designed by PGA Professionals, campers are taught the basics of golf throughout the entire week. Instructors also utilize obstacle courses, throwing exercises, and other non-golf activities to promote the development of athletic ability. Campers must provide their own lunch, snacks and beverages (snacks and drinks available for purchase on-site). 

Golf will take place in the morning and recreation activities will be in the afternoon. Lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m.

Kenwick Community Center Camp

This community center camp includes activities such as arts and crafts, games, special events, nature activities and other educational components. Campers must provide their own lunch, drink and snacks. 

*Note: For June 13 – 17, young artists ages 9 – 12 who are interested in the performing arts will participate in this one-week workshop for two hours a day. Participants will explore the magical world of Dr. Seuss through drama, music, and dance exercises, learn a number from the ACTivate Lexington production of Seussical Jr., create a costume and have the opportunity to perform the production number onstage at the Moondance Amphitheater with the main cast!

Our Outdoor Nature Camp is designed to allow your children to learn about and interact with some of the most fascinating elements of our natural world. During their time with us, they will learn about trees, how they grow, how to identify them and what makes them so special for our planet! They will learn about birds, their adaptations, how they fly and the variety of purposes they serve in the ecosystem. Beyond learning about nature, they will learn to interact with and play in nature through activities such as fishing, hiking, archery, planting, water activities and nature-themed games. If you would like your child to learn to appreciate and interact with nature and explore its many wonders, consider our Outdoor Nature Camp this summer for a naturally good time! Warning: Kids will get dirty each and every day of camp!

Tennis and Swim Camp

Parks & Recreation provides tennis instructors, tennis balls, a tennis ball machine and supervision at the pool. All participants must provide their own transportation, food and drinks, racquets, swimsuits and towels. Campers will be grouped for tennis instruction according to ability. All skill levels are accepted.

You may initially only register for one session; however, if additional sessions become available, you may register on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Therapeutic Recreation Fun Camps

Camps are designed for individuals, ages 5 to adults, ages 21 and up who have a physical, mental or other disability. Camps Castlewood and Woodland will operate from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Daytrippers will operate from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, call (859) 288-2908 or (859) 288-2928. Camp ratios will be 1 staff member per 3 – 5 campers. 

Individuals that need 1:1 support for personal care, behavioral needs, etc., will need to provide their own support personnel during the program. Support personnel will not be charged to attend.
