Summer camps

Parks & Recreation 2021 summer camp opportunities will follow recommendations from the CDC, our local health department, and the KY Healthy at Work Childcare Guidelines. Registration will begin on April 20 at 11 a.m. and remain open until camp sessions are full. 

In order to register online, you must have an account set up. This includes age verification for campers, which can take 1 – 3 business days. We recommend having this completed by April 19.

In-person registration will be in the parking lot of the Dunbar Community Center, 545 N. Upper,  April 20, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. In order to secure your spot quickly, please bring a completed registration form for in-person registration.

Select camps offer partial scholarships based on need. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, fill out the following form and email it to parnold@lexingtonky.gov with all necessary documentation by April 16. If you plan to apply in person, bring this information with you.

Dance Kids

Ages 6 – 13
$125 per session

Dance Kids camp is a full-day session and includes instruction in tap, jazz, cheer dance and movement, ballet, arts and crafts and daily swimming. Previous dance instruction is not required. Participants must be seven years old by the first day of their session.

Artkids

Ages 7 – 12
$125 per session
Tates Creek Recreation Center

Artkids is a great way to introduce your child to the arts. Campers will experience dance, visual arts, music, theatre and the work of guest artists. In addition, participants will swim every day.

Camp Kearney

Activities planned include sports, arts and crafts, archery, canoeing, team building and more. All campers must be dropped off and picked up at Jacobson Park each day. Campers may register for one session only. Campers must be in the age range as of Aug. 1, 2021.

Castlewood Camp

The Community Center Camp includes activities such as arts and crafts, games, special events, nature activities and other educational components. Campers must provide their own lunch, drink and snacks. 

Golf and Recreation Camp

Play Golf Lex Junior Golf Camps are both fun and educational, focusing on athletic and golf-skill development. With programming designed by PGA Professionals, campers are taught the basics of golf throughout the entire week. Instructors also utilize obstacle courses, throwing exercises, footgolf, and other non-golf activities to promote the development of athletic ability. Campers must provide their own lunch, snacks, and beverages (snacks and drinks available for purchase on-site). 

Golf will take place in the morning and recreation activities will be in the afternoon. Lunch will be from noon to 1 p.m. 

Outdoor Nature Camp at Hisle Farm Park

Our Outdoor Nature Camp is designed to allow your children to learn about and interact with some of the most fascinating elements of our natural world. During their time with us, they will learn about trees, how they grow, how to identify them, and what makes them so special for our planet! They will learn about birds, their adaptations, how they fly, and the variety of purposes they serve in the ecosystem. Beyond learning about nature, they will learn to interact with and play in nature through activities such as fishing, hiking, archery, planting, water activities, and nature-themed games. If you would like your child to learn to appreciate and interact with nature as well as explore its many wonders, consider our Outdoor Nature Camp this summer for a naturally good time! Warning: Kids will get dirty each and every day of camp!

Tennis and Swim Camp

Parks & Recreation provides tennis instructors, tennis balls, a tennis ball machine and supervision at the pool. All participants must provide their own transportation, food and drinks, racquets, swimsuits and towel. Campers will be grouped for tennis instruction according to ability. All skill levels accepted.

You may initially only register for one session; however, if additional sessions become available, you may register on first-come-first-serve basis.

Masterson Station Park Equestrian Camp

Campers may only sign up for one session per summer.

This camp is geared to riders with none to very little riding experience. We will have two riders assigned to a horse, as partners and they will learn the beginnings of English riding and other details of what horse ownership entails. Campers will ride every day, as well as learning some entry-level horse husbandry skills, and other fun activities.

No lunchtime, so campers should eat before or after their sessions.

Camp Kearney CIT (Counselor in Training)

Camp Kearney’s CIT (Counselor in Training) program is designed to help develop leadership skills in teens interested in working with children (ages 6 – 11).  CIT's will work with the CIT Coordinator to learn the basics of child development, programming, and supervision procedures and policies.  CIT's will also work with staff to develop and co-lead informal and formal activities with campers.  All CIT’s must be dropped off and picked up at Jacobson Park each day and may register for up to three sessions only. CIT’s must be in the age range as of Aug. 1, 2021.

Camps are designed for individuals, ages 5 to adults, who have disabilities. Camps Castlewood and Woodland will operate from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Daytrippers will operate from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information call (859) 288-2908.  Camp ratios will be 1 staff member per 3 – 5 campers. 

Individuals that need 1:1 support for personal care, behavioral needs, etc. will need to provide their own support personnel during the program. Support personnel will not be charged to attend.

ESP Summer Fun Camp at Artworks

$140 per week
Registration fee: five weeks or less $45, six weeks or more $60
