Lexington’s division of Parks & Recreation and Southland Jamboree has announced the 2023 schedule for the free Southland Jamboree concert series at Moondance Amphitheater.
“We’re excited to partner with Southland Jamboree to present another great bluegrass concert series this summer,” said Amber Luallen, Superintendent of Cultural Arts for Parks & Recreation. “Lexingtonians and music lovers from neighboring counties love listening to bluegrass music since it’s the genre named for our region, and this series is a great way to experience it every week all summer.”
Southland Jamboree brings some of the best bluegrass musicians from around the region to Moondance Amphitheater each summer. The concert series is one of the best showcases in Kentucky of the bluegrass music genre, which got its name from Bill Monroe and his band Blue Grass Boys – named after the “Bluegrass State,” where they lived. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy a picnic or purchase food from local food trucks.
Moondance Amphitheater, an outdoor performance venue with a tiered grass lawn, offers a beautiful outdoor space for Lexington residents to enjoy a variety of performances each summer. Southland Jamboree joins the Big Band & Jazz and Summer Nights in Suburbia concert series, which call the amphitheater home. Lexington Parks & Recreation has managed and programmed the venue for over 10 years.
