Position descriptions

Recreation

Summer Camp Positions (director, counselors, leaders must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • lead groups of children (ages 6-12) in a day camp setting
  • ensure camper’s safety
  • coordinate and lead various activities
  • assist with set up and break down. 
  • communicate with parents
  • other duties as assigned

 

Athletic Positions (supervisors, officials, scorekeepers must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • supervision of assigned sports leagues, programs, scorekeepers and game officials/umpires
  • supervision and control of assigned games
  • enforce established rules and regulations during competitions and sportsmanship of teams
  • manage players and spectators on the field/court
  • manage disputes

 

Natural Areas Positions (recreation leaders must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • leading environmental education programs, customer service, cleaning restrooms and general housekeeping
  • habitat management
  • invasive/ exotic species removal, trail maintenance, general maintenance
  • other duties as assigned

 

Therapeutic Recreation Positions (director, counselors must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • provide recreation programs for individuals with disabilities in an outdoor camp setting
  • manage day to day camp operations and staffing
  • assist with camper personal care and behavior management
  • assist with set-up, break-down
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Special Event Positions (Must be 16 years old and available evenings & weekends)
Duties include:

  • support for outdoor events
  • parking attendants, crowd control, ticket takers
  • set up and break down of event supplies

 

Extended School Summer Program (counselors must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • organize a healthy and safe environment for children in a summer camp program located in a Fayette County Public School. 
  • plan, implement and participate in a variety of activities on a daily basis
  • promote the social, developmental, and educational growth of campers in assigned group.

Cultural Arts Summer Positions (camp counselors, instructors, must be 18 years old)
Duties Include:

  • lead groups of children (ages 6-12) in a day camp/classroom setting
  • ensure participant safety
  • coordinate and lead various art, dance activities
  • assist with set up and break down. 
  • communicate with parents
  • other duties as assigned

 

Enterprise

Aquatic Attendant: (Must be 14 years old)
Duties include:

  • Cleaning restrooms and general pool cleaning
  • Create a friendly customer service facility
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Weekends and holidays may be required

 

Life Guard: (possession of a Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid Certificate, and CPR for the professional rescuer with AED Certificate prior to employment.  YMCA certification only accepted with Red Cross crossover certification.  Must be 16 years old.)Duties include:

  • ensure Safe swimming environment
  • notify and enforce pool rules
  • assist in bathhouse and pool cleaning
  • other duties as assigned
  • weekends, holidays and may be subject to call back duty

Aquatic Manager: (possession of a Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid certificate prior to employment preferred. Must be 18 years old.)
Duties include:

  • manage seasonal pool staff
  • ensure proper water chemistry
  • staff scheduling and financial reporting
  • ensure a safe clean swimming experience
  • weekends, holidays and may be subject to call back duty

 

Water Safety Instructor: (possession of Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred. Must be 16 years old.)
Duties include:

  • ensure a safe swimming environment
  • conduct high quality swimming lessons for multiple age ranges
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • weekends, holidays and may be subject to call back duty

 

Pool Cashier: (cash handling experience preferred. Must be 16 years old.)
Duties include:

  • cash register operation
  • assist in daily closing deposits and paperwork
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • weekends and holidays may be required

 

Concessions Manager/Attendant: (may work pools, golf, athletic or special events and must be 14 years old)
Duties include:

  • preparing and serving concession items
  • general cleaning
  • managers duties include inventory control and financial reporting
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • weekends and holidays may be required

 

Pro Shop Attendant: (golf experience preferred and must be 16 years old)
Duties include:

  • registering golfers for their tee time
  • processing purchases
  • golf car fleet management
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • weekends and holidays may be required

 

Pro Shop Attendant/ Camp Counselor: (golf experience and must be 16 years old)
Duties include:

  • registering golfers for their tee time
  • processing purchases
  • golf fleet management
  • assisting as camp counselor for golf camps
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • weekends and holidays may be required

 

Golf Course Laborer: (must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • maintaining grounds (mowing, debris removal...)
  • course set up, daily course preparation
  • create a friendly customer service facility
  • other duties as assigned
  • weekends and holidays may be required

 

Maintenance

Park Laborer I – Grounds Maintenance (must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • park grounds cleaning
  • landscaping
  • special event support
  • athletic field maintenance
  • assist with repairs of park facilities
  • other duties as assigned

 

Park Laborer II – Grounds Maintenance, Skilled Trades, and Custodial (must be 18 years old)
Duties include:

  • self-motivated with initiative
  • independent park grounds cleaning servicing shelters, playgrounds and facilities
  • turf maintenance including mowing, trimming and lawn care
  • custodial maintenance of community centers and facilities
  • assist with plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs for park amenities and facilities
  • special event stage construction
  • other duties as assigned
