Camp Kearney

Camp Counselors

  • Camp counselors work as a team to provide a high-quality summer camp experience for kids ages 6 – 11 at Jacobson Park. Staff will be involved in leading sports, arts and crafts, archery, canoeing, team building and more.
  • June 6 – July 22, Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Flex schedule – 40 hours per week. No weekends.

Community Centers

Castlewood Community Center Camp Counselors

  • Castlewood Community Center is seeking summer camp counselors to work in a team environment to provide high-quality summer camp experiences for elementary and middle school youth.
  • Positions start in June with a flex schedule of 40 hours per week and no weekends.

Community Center Recreation Leader

  • Recreation leaders will work with the Community Center Director to develop and lead programs for the youth and adults who visit the Community Center. Programs may include but are not limited to arts and crafts, homework help, indoor/outdoor recreational activities, etc.
  • Community Center locations include Dunbar, Tates Creek, Kenwick and Castlewood.
  • Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
  • A combination of work hours are needed between the hours of 3 – 9 p.m., depending on the community center.

Cultural Arts & Events

Arts and Events Assistant

  • Duties include: during the summer, the assistant supports the special events manager in planning events, from the concert series to outdoor movies and more. Computer knowledge is required and organizational skills are highly sought. In the fall and winter, the position shifts to evening hours and will report to the Artworks program manager to secure the building and provide customer service. Hours may change to 4 to 9 p.m. during the fall and winter. Desired qualifications: valid driver’s license; CPR certification (can obtain after employment); high school diploma or GED; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Docs, social media and Canva; ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Pay rate: $16.56 per hour; starts at 23 hours per week with the possibility of 40.

Bluegrass 10,000 Office Manager

  • Duties include serving as the primary communications lead for incoming phone calls and emails about Bluegrass 10,000, lead organizer and event coordinator for a new 13-week run club hosted Saturday mornings at different parks, and management of RunSignUp (registration software utilized, previous knowledge is not required). This person will also facilitate on-site registration opportunities at Parks & Recreation facilities and out in Lexington, and manage and distribute inventory.
  • Pay rate: $15 per hour for 20 – 40 hours per week. Schedule: Late May – July
  • A flexible schedule is required with the following required dates: Saturday mornings from April to the end of June, Saturdays June 18 and 25 for packet pick-up, other evening/weekend dates before July 4. July 2, 3, and 4 are required workdays.

Special Events Summer Staff

  • We have many positions available to help work during specific events. These employees could be parking attendants, help with set up and break down of events, or assist with customer service. The hours vary and candidates may choose from a list of events to work.

Enterprise

Office Assistant – Enterprise 

  • Duties include: Taking calls from customers, delivering messages, using basic office equipment, maintenance of files or data, data entry, welcoming visitors, sending/receiving mail, and other duties as assigned. 
  • Computer knowledge is required and organizational skills are preferred. 
  • Hours may vary: 20-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Seasonal position.

Extended School Program (ESP)

Summer Camp Recreation Leaders

  • ESP is looking for recreational leaders for our Summer Fun Camp at Ashland, Julius Marks, Stonewall Elementary, and Veterans Park schools. Recreational leaders are in charge of a group of elementary-aged children (entering 1st grade to entering 5th grade) and are expected to monitor student behavior, program activities, and other duties as assigned. Summer Fun Camp will have weekly field trips to the pool and all day trips to the zoo, Legends game, and local waterpark.
  • Ideal candidates will have prior experience in- summer camp, working with children, or in school for education, but is not required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, willing to get a TB skin test, submit to a DCBS Child Care - Kentucky National Background Check (finger print), state and local criminal record checks, as well as a Child Abuse and Neglect check.  Must take an online training course for First Aid CPR and Child Abuse and Neglect.
  • Camp runs from June 5 – July 28, Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Morning or afternoon shifts. Must be available to work all eight weeks. No weekends are required. Starting at $15 per hour.

Summer Camp Van and/or Bus Driver (CDL Certification)

  • The Extended School Program (ESP) is looking for van drivers and/or bus drivers that hold a passenger CDL. Drivers will be maintaining a Parks & Recreation vehicle (bus, van) and transporting campers to and from locations during summer camp (pools or other local field trips). Note: some field trips will be outside of Lexington.
  • Must be at least 18 years old, willing to get a TB skin test, submit to a DCBS Child Care – Kentucky National Background Check (fingerprint), state and local criminal record checks, as well as a Child Abuse and Neglect check. Seasonal Laborers

  • Lexington Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for seasonal laborers for the summer season. Spend the summer working in some of the city’s most picturesque spots while helping make Lexington a better place to live and work!
  • Job duties for these positions will vary, but will involve grounds maintenance including, but not limited to, mowing, trimming and weeding of parks, removal of trash and debris, cleaning of parks’ restrooms and buildings and supporting parks’ and city special events.
  • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Salary starts at $15 per hour.
  • Applications are currently being accepted at Masterson Station Park Maintenance Facility (3544 Shamrock Lane), North Base Maintenance Facility (1793 Liberty Road) and Picadome Administrative Office (469 Parkway Dr.) anytime Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Candidates must apply in-person. Programs Coordinator

  • The Summer Special Programs Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing scheduling for staff, field trips, speakers, and meals, tracking the budget, staff supervision, participant paperwork, and creating various reports for the Community Summer Teen Retreat, Summer Playground Days and Neighborhood Nature programs.

Primary duties will include driving the Park and Play van, maintaining supply inventory, customer service, and maintaining the service delivery calendar and staff schedule.

Camp counselor

  • Working Summer Fun Camps outside at Castlewood Park, Woodland Park and Dunbar Community Center.
  • Prefer experience working with children, youth or adults with disabilities in an outdoor recreational, educational or institutional settings. 
  • Current First aid, CPR and AED certifications are preferred but not mandatory.

  • Work hours will be between 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., depending on the camp location.

Maintenance

Custodial staff

  • This position will perform custodial duties at Tates Creek Community Center and Tates Creek Ballroom. May also assist with other maintenance work, as assigned.
