Commuters encouraged to drive cautiously as snow moves in

City crews are on duty in preparation of snowfall expected this evening. Rain could switch over to snow flurries as early as the Friday evening commute. Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for slick spots as well as stopped vehicles.

Crews with Lexington’s divisions of Water Quality and Streets & Roads have been deployed to treat any problem areas during the evening. With the rain beforehand, pretreating the roads with brine was not possible. At 8 p.m., crews will shift to enact the snow plan as needed.

Road conditions will be evaluated Saturday morning to determine if additional crews will need to be called in this weekend.

The city’s snow removal plan with street and sidewalk rankings is available at our snow page. Get the latest on city snow removal, delays, closings and more at snow updates.

Residents can get information on accidents, lane blockages, snow-and-ice trouble spots and road closures through the city’s Twitter/X accounts (@lexwrecks and @lexkypolice). They can also view traffic at major intersection in real time through the city’s traffic cameras.
