Second annual Lex Glow Ride to light up the night Nov. 5

Get your lights and reflective gear ready! The second annual Lex Glow Ride will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Shillito Park. The event is hosted by the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the City of Lexington to promote safe walking and riding behaviors.

Glow Ride kicks off with a festival at 6 p.m., followed by the parade lineup at 6:45 p.m. The festival will take place in the small parking lot directly across from the baseball complex.

“Lex Glow Ride is a fun, family-friendly event designed to help cyclists feel more comfortable and confident riding and to show that bicycling can be a safe and viable mode of transportation,” says MPO Director & Transportation Planning Manager Christopher Evilia. “We look forward to seeing cyclists of all ages and experience levels participating in this parade of lights.”

The festival will offer a variety of activity stations, including free tire checks and bike tune-ups, reflective gear giveaways and a bike decoration station. Hot chocolate and water will be provided, and food and drink will be available for purchase from Olmeda’s Mexican Grill on Wheels.

The ride will take place on the 2.4 mile paved path. The trail will be lit, with course marshals stationed at road crossings.

After the ride concludes, community members are invited to stay at Shillito Park to view the night sky with the Bluegrass Amateur Astronomy Club. Please note, this portion of the evening will be weather-dependent.
