Traffic backups likely on Old Frankfort Pike

Motorists are advised to avoid Old Frankfort Pike between Forbes Road and New Circle Road starting on Tuesday, May 16, as vehicles may back up while waiting to enter the city’s waste transfer station. The transfer station is located at 1505 Old Frankfort Pike.

Backups may occur as a result of renovation work being done to the floor and side walls at the transfer station. City and private waste haulers use the transfer station to unload trash they have collected. That waste is then loaded into semi-trailers and hauled to a landfill in another county. During the demolition and reconstruction, fewer trucks will be able to empty their loads at any one time.

The peak time for backups will be weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The work is expected to be completed by mid-August.
