Drivers reminded to remain cautious if they must travel tonight and tomorrow morning

Motorists are reminded if they must drive Friday night and Saturday morning to use caution. Low temperatures could cause re-freezing on previously treated roadways so drivers will need to remain alert.

Crews from the City and contractors continue to treat roads per the City’s snow plan after the winter storm that brought a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow to Lexington. Main roads are in good condition but neighborhood roads could remain with partial snow or slush coverage.

Between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, the Lexington Police Department responded to the following:

  • Injury collisions: 2
  • Non-injury collisions: 5
  • Motorist assists: 4
  • Traffic hazards: 1
  • Downed wires: 2

If your waste collection day was missed due to the most recent storm, pick-up will resume on your regular collection day next week. For example, carts that were not picked up Thursday, Feb. 3 will be serviced Thursday, Feb. 10. Crews will collect overflow bags. Make sure the bags are securely tied. Set them near, but not against, your green cart for collection.

Both the Owl Prowl event at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary and the Outdoor Skills event at McConnell Springs scheduled for tomorrow has been canceled. The “Glory Road” basketball game between Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and Louisville Central scheduled to take place at Dunbar Community Center tomorrow has been postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date. The Parks Therapeutic Recreation bowling outing at Southland Bowl is canceled.

Bitter cold temperatures remain in the forecast. Residents are reminded that prolonged exposure to dangerously cold temperatures can put pets in danger. If you believe you have witnessed the mistreatment, neglect or abuse of an animal, contact the LFACC at (859) 255-9033 ext. 221. Your contact information will be kept confidential.

For the most up-to-date list of closings, delays and cancelations, visit the City’s website at lexingtonky.gov/snowupdates.
