Retirement plans

LFUCG employees have the opportunity to grow savings contributions in pre-tax 401(k) and 457 plans as well as after-tax Roth IRA and Roth 401(k) plans; and LFUCG’s legislative body contributes city revenues to the County Employees Retirement System (the retirement and benefits system for LFUCG’s full-time employees) and the Police and Firefighter Retirement Fund (the retirement and benefit fund for sworn members of the Divisions of Police and Fire and Emergency Services).

County Employees Retirement Systems (CERS)

Full-time employees participate in the County Employees Retirement System (CERS). Plan participants make pre-tax contributions to the CERS pension fund and the city’s legislative body contributes city revenues to the fund. Service Credit for retirement purposes

For retirement purposes, all periods of absence without leave and authorized leaves of absence without pay for periods in excess of 30 calendar days shall be deducted in computing total service credit. All service credit shall be extinguished upon dismissal or upon acceptance of resignation. As provided in the code of ordinances, section 21-23, service credit shall not be restored upon reinstatement.

Police and Firefighter Retirement Fund (PFRF)

The Police and Firefighter Retirement Fund (PFRF) is a retirement and benefit fund for sworn members of the Lexington Police Department and Fire & Emergency Services that the city’s legislative body contributes city funds. The provisions of the PFRF are established by state law (KRS 67A.360 – 67A.690).
