Seniors invited to take part in government intern program

Fayette County residents 50 and older are invited to learn more about their local government by enrolling in the 2024 Senior Intern Program. The free program offers senior adults the opportunity to talk with key decision-makers in city government, participate in class activities and visit several government facilities.

Several sessions are devoted to field trips to outlying government operations that include the Mayor’s Office, Lexington Fire & Emergency Services, the Division of Police and others.

This year’s program will be held June 10 – 14. Space is limited to the first 45 eligible people who apply. Only those people who have not previously attended may participate.

The program was started 38 years ago by Churck Ellinger Sr and Bob Babbage. If interested, contact Kristy Stambaugh at kstambau@lexingtonky.gov or (859) 278-6072. Individuals may also sign-up at the Lexington Senior Center, 195 Life Lane.
