250Lex Commission announces cultural grant program

The 250Lex Commission, which is organizing the celebration in 2025 of Lexington’s 250th anniversary, is inviting Lexington residents to apply for community cultural grants designed to showcase Lexington’s rich, unique history.

“Our 2025 celebration year is centered on our former, current, and future residents,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “These grants will highlight our city’s traditions and rich history, as we come together to celebrate our past, and prepare for a bright future ahead.”

Grants provided by the 250Lex commission will help residents produce high-quality, meaningful programming that focuses on increasing tourism, broadening and diversifying participation and engagement among residents and visitors in the anniversary, showcasing Lexington’s businesses, people, cultural, or social organizations, or creating meaningful events that will continue beyond 2025.

Kip Cornett, Co-Chair of the 250 Lex Commission said, “This celebration is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our city, and these grants will allow our neighbors to leave their permanent mark on Lexington.”

Grant awards will range from $5,000 – $20,000. Those eligible to apply for grant funding include Fayette County residents and Lexington non-profit organizations, such as galleries, libraries, museums, arts and cultural groups, faith-based groups, and more. Funds will not be awarded to for-profit businesses. Applicants may only submit one application per organization or individual.

Grant applications are due by no later than 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Once all applications are received, a selection committee will review the submitted applications. Applicants chosen to receive funding will be notified by the end of May.

Interested applicants can view the application and application guidelines on the event website
