No waste collection Friday; City offices closed

As the response to today’s snow event continues, a number of City services will be modified or suspended on Friday, Jan. 7.

There will be no garbage pick-up on Friday. Friday pick-ups will be made on Wednesday, Jan. 12. On Saturday, Jan. 8, Waste Management will service downtown, emergencies and any Thursday pick-ups that weren’t completed because of weather.

The Free Trash Disposal Day planned for Saturday, Jan. 8 will be rescheduled for a later date.

Non-emergency City offices that are not involved in snow removal will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7, because of weather conditions.

The Lexington Senior Center will be closed on Friday, Jan. 7.

The Family Care Center will be closed Friday. The UK Clinic will operate normal hours, but patients are advised to call ahead just to be sure.

The Samuel Brown Health Center and City Employee Pharmacy will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7.

With the cold weather, residents are reminded that prolonged exposure to dangerous cold temperatures can put pets in danger. If you believe you have witnessed mistreatment, neglect or abuse of an animal, contact Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control at (859) 255-9033 ext. 221. Your contact information will be kept confidential.

Motorists are urged to not travel unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, slow down, increase your braking distance and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Emergency Weather Plan

The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention’s Community Emergency Winter Weather plan has been activated and will remain so through the morning of Saturday, Jan. 8 due to the cold temperatures. Catholic Action Center is partnering with Lighthouse Ministry to provide shelter from Thursday opening at 3 p.m. through 10 a.m. Saturday. Lighthouse is located at 190 Spruce St. For a list of all available shelters and transportation services, as well as other resources, visit uwbg211.org.

Social media: Get information on accidents, lane blockages, snow-and-ice trouble spots and road closures through the City’s Twitter accounts at @lexwrecks and @lexkypolice. General information, including, emergency and time-sensitive information, is available on the City’s Facebook account.  

Traffic cameras: Traffic at major intersections can be viewed in real time through the city’s traffic cameras at lexingtonky.gov/traffic.
