The city is seeking submissions for Art by Nature, a celebration of our local environment. This exhibit is focused on trees, featuring 23 trees from around Fayette County. Visual artists of all types - painters, photographers, fiber artists, jewelry makers, sculptors and more - are encouraged to participate.
Art by Nature was previously known as Paint by Nature, and is in its fourth year. The program highlights how residents can improve and enhance the natural world by spotlighting local native landscapes and plants as represented by local artists. The inaugural year focused on local greenways and streamside restoration projects. Native plants in medians, easements and mailbox strips were featured in 2019. 2020 also showcased trees. However, since the gallery and events were all virtual, trees get a chance to shine again in 2021.
The 2021 exhibit will take place Thursday, October 14 through Friday, December 17, at Julietta Market in Greyline Station. The program is not juried; artists of all levels are welcome to participate by submitting up to three pieces. Participants are guaranteed only one spot in the show. Works are for sale, though an artist may choose to opt out of that aspect of the program.
“The exhibit is an exciting opportunity to explore the connections between art and nature,” says city arborist Heather Wilson. “We’ve received amazing artwork in the past and I can’t wait to see what people create this year.”
The City is planning a series of art and nature events in conjunction with the exhibit. Details on those events will be announced in early October.
