Residents are invited to come together on Friday, July 14 from 2 – 5 p.m. at Lex Litter Fest, a litter cleanup and community celebration in Castlewood Park. The event is family-friendly and will include free food, music and information about how litter impacts the environment. Participants will have the chance to win prizes by picking up litter and by visiting information tables.
Members of the community are invited to pick up litter in Castlewood Park. Gloves, bags and litter pickers will be provided. Bags and gloves will also be provided for those wanting to pick up litter they find in the surrounding area before or after the event.
The event will also include 3-on-3 basketball and soccer to remind athletes of the importance of picking up trash after games.
Lex Litter Fest was organized by members of the inaugural Youth Environmental Academy, a partnership with Fayette County Public Schools. Participating students got a behind-the-scenes look at the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works.
