Mayor Gorton announces plans for Davis Park Workforce Center

Mayor Linda Gorton today announced plans for the new Davis Park Workforce Center, to be located at 501 DeRoode St.

“This new development will provide our residents with employment resources and solutions,” Gorton said. “It will help people get back on their feet, improve their job skills, and train the workforce our businesses need.”

The Davis Park Workforce Center will bring the community a multitude of career and employer services that will be at the ready for all residents and businesses of Lexington-Fayette County. Onsite staff will assist jobseekers with employability skills, such as resume writing, interview skills, essential employment skills, and job searching assistance. Computers will be available for individuals to search for jobs, hold virtual interviews, work on their resumes, and participate in online training.

“We hope with the Davis Park Workforce Center to create a pipeline to high demand careers to ensure that our residents have employment opportunities, and that employers are able to fill their workforce needs,” said Amy Glasscock, Mayor’s Office Director of Business Engagement.

Councilmember Jennifer Reynolds said, “Having this workforce training facility in the 11th District will be a huge benefit to the residents in this area who are seeking more resources to be able to land a good job. Everyone deserves a job that is fulfilling and allows you to pay your bills. We hope this center will serve all of our diverse residents and help them navigate the workforce.”

The Center will also offer a community room for businesses and partner agencies to gather for meetings, job fairs, and resource events. The development will also feature a training room that will be utilized by youth and adults for employability skills, workshops, employer events, career coaching, trainings, and more.

“It is a wonderful day to celebrate another phase of the Lexington Community Land Trust,” said Johan Graham, President of AU Associates.  The workforce center is part of an affordable housing project AU is building in the Davis Park neighborhood. Tax credits related to the funding of the affordable housing are being used to build the Workforce Center. Its cost is estimated at $750,000.

In addition to support from the city, funding for the development is made possible by HOPE of the Midwest, CAHEC, Cedar Rapids Banks & Trust and Kentucky Housing Corporation.
