Branching Out

A Celebration of 20 Years of Reforest the Bluegrass

Lexington is partnering with community groups, neighborhoods, schools and local businesses to plant trees at 20 sites. Our vision is to plant established trees on smaller sites that are not suitable for a traditional Reforest the Bluegrass event. Branching Out planting areas will be located throughout Lexington, with high need areas given priority.

Since 1999, Reforest the Bluegrass has brought hundreds of volunteers together to plant thousands of trees on one day in April. Over the program’s history, an estimated 15,500 volunteers have planted 136,000 trees.

We want to celebrate 20 years by expanding that effort to include 20 planting events. The Branching Out program will plant significant trees that range in cost from $80 – $200. These large trees will have an immediate and lasting impact.
