Legislation subject to KRS 173.340
The governance of the Lexington Public Library is under the direction of seven Trustees and up to 10 Advisors who guide the long-term strategies, including the long-range plan, annual budget cycle, advocating for the library and for library customers, and policy recommendations.
Lexington Public Library’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion extends to the Board of Trustees and Advisors. Each vacancy is evaluated based on gender and gender identity, racial diversity, council district representation, age, and organizational experience.
All Trustees and Advisors are recommended by the Library and appointed by the Mayor, subject to approval by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council. The four-year commitment includes a monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, and each member is expected to serve on one Board Committee.
