Bike/Walk Lexington

The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government is working to make Lexington a more walkable and bike-friendly city. Often overlooked and underrated, bicycling and walking can be simple and pleasurable ways to stay healthy while protecting our environment and reconnecting with our community. Whether you are considering bike commuting, recreational riding, or looking for a way to stay fit, we hope to provide you with the resources and infrastructure you need to bike and walk Lexington.

Bike Month

Bike Month is back this May! 

Bike Month celebrates riding a bicycle for transportation, exercise and fun while reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention and share the road!

The month-long celebration will include in-person, virtual, and self-paced events hosted by the City and community partners.

We are looking for community partners to host Bike Month events. Submit your event below!

StreetFest

May 11, 2024 from 10 a.m. – noon
Oliver Lewis Way between High St. and Broadway

StreetFest celebrates streets as shared, public spaces. Bring your bikes, scooters, rollerblades or boards! The event, sponsored by the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, is modeled on the Second Sunday events that took place a decade ago. Bikes and helmets will be available to rent! Food vendors will be present. Games, competitions and much fun will be had!

Streetfest

Lemonade Ride

May 19 | 5:30 p.m.
Coldstream Dog Park

Snag some refreshing lemonade and then go on a family friendly bike ride around a 2 mile loop. This is a go-at-your-own-pace ride lead by our awesome bike guides. Riding bikes together is more fun!

Bicycles and helmets not provided. 

Teach your preschooler to ride

1 – 2 p.m.
Beaumont YMCA

Get tips and tricks on how to teach your preschooler to ride. Balance bikes are provided for children to get used to being on a bike. 

Library cycling safety program

June 1 | 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Central Library Branch | 140 E. Main St.

Welcome all 2nd and 3rd graders! Join us for a cycling safety course for kids. Learn basic bike maintenance and then get a chance to test out your skills and ride around an enclosed space by the library!

Broke Spoke community nights

May 14 | 6 – 9 p.m.
Broke Spoke | 501 W 6th St. Unit 130

LGBTQ+ Night: All levels of knowledge are welcome.Come on down and spend some time learning bike maintenance and mechanics! Enjoy a space full of community and free of the usual barriers presented with a patriarchal, heteronormative society.

May 21 | 6 – 9 p.m.
