Tax Increment Financing (TIF) is a state program that allows developers to apply a portion of newly generated taxes from an area to pay for a project’s public infrastructure. The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government participates by committing a portion of newly generated taxes at the local level to state projects. Public infrastructure supported by TIF projects in Lexington has included parking, roads, sidewalks, curbs, lighting, and sewer infrastructure.
