Live Green Lexington

Lexington continues to grow

New jobs, new businesses, new neighbors.

Growth can also mean more buildings, lots and streets — less green space to absorb stormwater into the ground. It runs off into our antiquated storm sewer system, washing oil, dirt and trash into our streams and rivers, sending our water quality literally down the drain.

Find out how you help right here.

We live in one of the most naturally beautiful places on Earth.

Time to get serious about keeping it that way.

Lexington now has a Department of Environmental Quality, working to protect and preserve our land, air and water resources. They're committed to protect the people we love and the place we love to live in. But they can't do it alone. This is the place to find out what green means — and how to live it.

The new Water Quality Management Fee: Protect what's priceless.

The programs that will be funded by the fee will put Lexington in compliance with the Clean Water Act. Doing nothing is not an option. That's why the Department of Environmental Quality is busy overhauling our sanitary and storm sewers, cleaning up and teaching us how to keep this precious resource safe.

Green Heroes

"It's no secret that I'm passionate about preserving Lexington's birthplace, McConnell Springs. So I'm thrilled that the City's taken a bold step to clean up the water that pollutes McConnell Springs and ultimately, our river."
