Mission Statement: To ensure public safety and the maintenance of community standard through consistent enforcement of building codes, zoning regulations and the comprehensive plan.
The primary purpose of the Division of Building Inspection is to ensure safe minimum levels of construction through enforcement of the uniform Kentucky Building Code. This is closely followed by the enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance, which provides for the safe orderly growth of our community.
New building codes adopted:
In July the state approved the 2007 Kentucky Building Code and the 2007 Kentucky Residential Code. See Current Codes for further information on the implementation and effective dates for these new codes.
Contractors Must Register
We have now registered over 1600 contractors to work in Lexington-Fayette County under the new Contractors Registration Ordinance. This ordinance requires all contractors to register with the Division of Building Inspection. For additional information call us. Unregistered contractors cannot obtain building permits.
