Councilmember Brenda Monárrez (Mō NAH rrez) was elected to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council in November 2022 and is the first person of Latin-American descent to ever serve on the council.
She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Gatton College of Business & Economics at the University of Kentucky, where she studied management and economics. She is a lifetime member of Delta Epsilon Iota and Phi Sigma Theta honor societies.
Brenda has called Lexington home for over 30 years. She has international business experience, previously working for Lexmark International, where she oversaw service and support operations in 12 countries as a part of the Latin America division. She has also been a housing advocate, working to increase homeownership across the state as a part of the Kentucky Housing Corporation. She has given home-buying seminars to educate potential homebuyers on down payment assistance programs, mortgage options, the home-buying process, and buyers' rights when purchasing a home. She has also served as a Director of Human Resources and OSHA safety officer. Most recently, she was a small business owner.
Brenda comes from a family that modeled and instilled civic engagement. That upbringing has made the honor of serving the diverse population of the 4th Council District that much more special. She currently serves on the Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee and the Social Services and Public Safety Committee.
