Summer Youth Job Training Program

Lexington’s Summer Youth Job Training Program (SYJTP) offers Lexington youth the opportunity to gain work experience & develop interpersonal skills. Participants will learn and explore career interests while earning income during the summer. We invite your business or community organization to join our public-private partnership by serving as a worksite.

What is SYJTP?

The Summer Youth Job Training Program provides workforce training opportunities for Lexington youth who are rising 10th, 11th and 12th-grade high school students by teaming with Lexington’s business and community-based partners. Youth workers will work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, and earn $15 per hour. The city government pays all youth workers’ salaries.

Each year, to prepare for their summer positions and give priority opportunities, we offered a skills session to the students. This year, we are excited to announce that Skills Sessions will start earlier, be available via Zoom, and are now extended courses. To join the 2024 Summer Youth Job Training program, enroll in the Skills Session courses beginning in January.

SYJTP Skills Session 2024

SYJTP Skills Sessions will meet weekly starting in January on Wednesdays and Thursdays to provide youth with life skills useful to their Summer Youth Job Training employment positions and future. Registered youth will be split into two groups for these sessions: Group A and Group B. Youth will learn financial literacy, money management, critical thinking, workplace etiquette, public transportation and more. The skills Sessions schedule is as follows, with additional sessions to be added:

Chase Bank

  • Group A | Jan. 10 – 31, 2024
