Volunteer for this year’s Great American Cleanup

Lexington’s Great American Cleanup kickoff meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24. Through the Great American Cleanup, Keep Lexington Beautiful encourages organizations, churches, schools, businesses, clubs and individuals to pick up litter in a neighborhood, park, roadway, greenway, or stream.

Last year, more than 3,400 Lexington residents took part in 82 cleanup events, contributing 6,595 volunteer hours. These volunteers collected more than 32,391 pounds of litter and debris.

Groups who register their event will receive supplies and support. Keep Lexington Beautiful, the local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, will provide bags and gloves. A leaf blower, a trimmer, shovels, rakes, and buckets are also available to check out. The city will arrange for proper disposal of collected material.

Those interested in planning an event are encouraged to attend the February 24, kickoff meeting, which will take place in the Phoenix Building at 101 E. Vine Street. Parking is available in the lot next to the Phoenix building, located between Water and Vine Streets.

Event registration information is available at keeplexingtonbeautiful.com. Questions can be directed to Louise Caldwell-Edmonds at (859)425-2804 or louisec@lexingtonky.gov.
