Police investigating death of female found on Tates Creek Road

Lawrence WestbrookSeptember 1, 2018 UPDATE - A man has been charged in a 2017 murder case. Officers from the Lexington Police Department today charged Lawrence Westbrook III, 40, for the shooting death of 39-year-old Rachel Preston.

A lengthy investigation resulted in detectives identifying Westbrook as the suspect who shot and killed Rachel Preston on December 26, 2017. In addition to murder, Westbrook was also arrested on several narcotics-related offenses.

Preston’s body was found by passersby on the side of Tates Creek Road near McDowell Road.

Westbrook is lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.


Previously released December 27, 2017 - The Lexington Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday evening.

Around 9:21 p.m. Tuesday December 26, officers were dispatched to the 5900-block of Tates Creek Road in reference to a subject down. Officers located the deceased female on the side of the road, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.  

The victim’s name and cause of death will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s office.

Preliminary investigation reveals that this may be narcotics related; however there are no suspect descriptions or motive at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lexington Police Department by calling (859) 258-3600.
