Brown joins Mayor’s Office

Mayor Linda Gorton has named Tiffany Michelle Brown Equity and Implementation Officer and assigned her the task of implementing the recommendations made by the Commission for Racial Justice & Equality, a group the Mayor organized in 2020 to identify ways to disrupt and dismantle systemic racism in the community.

“Tiffany has considerable experience in problem solving and implementing reforms in Cincinnati through the Center for Social Justice at the Urban League,” Gorton said. “Since we got the final Commission report in October 2020, we have been moving ahead with implementation of its recommendations. Tiffany will help us speed up our progress.”

Brown’s career has spanned both the public and private sector; building partnerships with residents, government officials and community organizations to accomplish and empower shared community vision.

“It is time to create an intentional and equitable Lexington where everyone can participate and prosper,” Brown said. “The goal of the Commission for Racial Justice & Equality and the recommendations that came from the report is to hold ourselves accountable to implementing the necessary work the community says it needs.”

Brown is currently working on identifying members for a permanent Racial Justice and Equality Commission, which the Mayor plans to appoint early next year. She is also working on the issue of food insecurity in underserved areas of town, where there is limited access to affordable and nutritious food.

Brown holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s of Public Administration from Capella University.

She is a native of Lexington and has deep roots in the community through her church and other organizations.

Tiffany follows Lisa Higgins-Hord in implementation of the recommendations. Starting last January, Higgins-Hord, Assistant Vice President for Community Engagement at the University of Kentucky, worked part-time on the implementation. Many of the recommendations have been implemented, while many others are in progress.
