Recycle holiday lights with annual collection drive

Holiday lights not shining so bright? Don’t throw them out. Bring them to a convenient location to be recycled. Holiday lights cannot be recycled in your recycle cart, but Lexington’s Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works can take them through a special collection drive through Jan. 12, 2025.

This is the seventh annual holiday lights collection drive. This annual program has led to over 10,000 pounds of electronics being diverted from the landfill. Additionally, string lights, batteries and other electronics can damage equipment at the Recycle Center, so they should not be put in blue recycle carts or recycling dumpsters.

The City has partnered with local businesses and organization to provide drop-off locations for holiday lights throughout Lexington. Drop-off bins are available during the locations’ regular business hours, so be sure to check before you go.
