Mayor Linda Gorton has named Erin Hensley as the City’s new Finance Commissioner.
“This position is especially important right now because of the financial challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gorton said. “Erin’s experience makes her well prepared to help us handle these challenges.”
Hensley has spent the last 10 years at the Community Action Council, where she most recently served as Chief Financial Officer. Community Action is a non-profit organization with an operating budget of more than $40 million, and a staff of 420. She also has experience in public accounting.
“Every day in finance brings new challenges and new opportunities to positively impact the community,” Hensley said.
Hensley is a native of Lexington and a graduate of the University of Kentucky with degrees in accounting and marketing.
She and her husband, Todd, have one son and twin daughters.
Hensley’s appointment has been confirmed by the Urban County Council. She starts work this week.
The finance commissioner oversees the Divisions of Accounting, Budgeting, Purchasing and Revenue. Hensley succeeds Bill O’Mara, who retired.
