Lexington Police obtain arrest warrant in murder investigation

On Monday, October 8, Jermaine D. Yates turned himself in to authorities. His arrest warrant for Murder has been served and he is currently lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.Jermaine Yates


A suspect has been identified in the fatal shooting of a Lexington man. Investigators with the Lexington Police Department obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for Jermaine D. Yates, 32, for Murder. Detectives determined that Yates shot and killed Kerry D. Kenney on July 1. 

Anyone with knowledge of Yates’ whereabouts is asked to contact police.


Previously released July 2, 2018 - On July 1, 2018 at approximately 3:15 a.m., officers responded to N. Broadway / Short Street in reference to an individual who had been shot. The victim was a passenger in a vehicle which had stopped on Short Street. The male victim, a Lexington resident, was pronounced deceased by the Fayette County Coroner’s office and has been identified as 31-year-old Kerry Douglas Kenney. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe a drug transaction led up to the shooting.
