A Richmond man faces new charges stemming from a fatal collision that occurred nearly one year ago in Lexington. This week, the Fayette County Grand Jury returned an indictment against 34-year-old Samuel Alex Turner on the following offenses:
- Manslaughter 2nd
- Fetal Homicide 3rd
- Wanton Endangerment 1st
- Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st (Meth)
- Driving Under the Influence of Drugs
- Persistent Felony Offender 2nd
On October 11, 2018, Turner was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria on Winchester Road when the car struck another vehicle head-on near Patchen Wilkes Drive. A pregnant passenger in Turner’s vehicle, 29-year-old Kayla McCoy of Lexington, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
An investigation led by the Lexington Police Collision Reconstruction Unit found that Turner’s car had drifted to the left and crossed into the opposing lane of traffic. On the day of the collision, police charged Turner with Operating a Vehicle on a Suspended License and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Warrants are active for Turner’s arrest, and officers are working to locate him. Anyone with information about Turner’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600.
