Update - 10/3/24: Russell Cave Road Homicide Investigation

Update – 10/3/2024: One person has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on Russell Cave Road.

Utilizing the Real-Time Intelligence Center, Flock license plate readers, and FUSUS, officers were able to identify a suspect as Steven McGaughy, 30. McGaughy was arrested on October 3, 2024, and charged with Murder, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief – 1st Degree. He is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.

The Lexington Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following the death of the victim from the September 27 shooting that took place on Russell Cave Road. 

On September 27, 2024, around 1:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Russell Cave Road for a shooting with a victim. When officers arrived, they located a male victim outside with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with reported life-threatening injuries and later passed away due to his injuries.
