City's Green Check program recognizes 13 businesses

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government is honoring 13 Green Check members this year. Green Check is the City of Lexington's green business sustainability certification program. It is designed to recognize businesses for their green initiatives and to help them expand their sustainability efforts.

New honorees include: Creative Yoga (Silver), Food Chain (Silver), McConnell Springs (Silver), Poppy & Pomelo (Silver), Raven Run (Silver), Van Meter Holdings (Silver), Lucia’s World Emporium (Bronze), Lussi Brown Coffee Bar (Bronze), and LEX Center for Creative ReUse (Member). Recertifying honorees include: Klausing Group (Gold), Mediocre Creative (Gold), VisitLEX (Silver), and Bluegrass United Church of Christ (Bronze).

These businesses all demonstrate a commitment to increased sustainability within their facilities and operations. Example initiatives from the businesses include the installation of rain gardens, upgrades to energy-efficient lighting, office compost programs and promoting alternative transportation.

Green Check recognizes businesses and organizations for their green initiatives and helps them expand their sustainability efforts. The free program begins with a personal consultation and completion of the Green Check Sustainability Scorecard. The Sustainability Scorecard caters to organizations across a variety of sectors, including restaurants, non-profit organizations, retail, and manufacturers. Although the certification is valid for three years, member organizations are encouraged to pursue higher tiers through continued participation and achievement.

The window to apply to for Green Check certification is open now through the end of January 2024. Visit lexingtonky.gov/GreenCheck for sustainable business resources and to apply for the program.
