A man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in February. Investigators with the Lexington Police Department today charged Malik Nelson, 19, with the murder of Mikel Willis.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives found evidence and multiple witnesses linking Nelson to the shooting.
Nelson has been lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center since May of this year, when he was charged with Murder in the death of Christian Cubert.
Previously released Feb. 7, 2018 - The Lexington Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a body was discovered in the 500-block of East Sixth Street.
Around 4 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, officers were dispatched to the area of E. Sixth and Shropshire Avenue for a report of a man lying unresponsive near a dumpster. Officers located a 19-year-old black man deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim has been identified by the Fayette County Coroner's office as Mikel Antonio Willis of Lexington.
