Lexington ... get ready to have some fun and make a difference in our parks!
“Since COVID-19 arrived, our citizens have been visiting our parks more than ever, and we love that,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “We have had community members reach out and ask how they can get involved in keeping our parks beautiful, and we have an answer ... Lex Clean Parks!"
From September 17-30, citizens are asked to get out and enjoy Lexington Parks while picking up litter. “And we even have free tools to help you do it,” Gorton said.
From 2:30-5 p.m., Thursday, September 17, come grab a free trash pick-up kit at Parks offices at 469 Parkway Dr. The City has 50 kits to give away to families that want to participate. These kits include a trash picker, adult and child-size gloves, and trash bags. While citizens are not required to use the free kits to participate in Lex Clean Parks, Parks officials do recommend that all participants wear gloves while helping out.
“We know that being outside and working together as a community can have positive effects on mental wellness and physical health,” said Monica Conrad, Director of Parks and Recreation. “This is a new way for families to explore our parks and enjoy the experience of being a part of making Lexington an even better place to live.”
