September 12 UPDATE – Within hours of releasing surveillance video Saturday of a theft that occurred at a Lexington Walmart, the victim’s wallet was returned and the suspect was identified.
The case involved a wallet that was mistakenly left at a checkout counter at the Richmond Road Walmart. The next customer in line was caught on video placing the wallet in her own purse.
Charges are pending at this time.
The Lexington Police Department is working to identify a woman seen taking a customer’s wallet at a local Walmart store.
On Sunday, September 3, an officer took a theft report at the Richmond Road Walmart. The victim stated that after purchasing several items, she mistakenly left her wallet on the counter near the register. When the victim went back a couple minutes later, her wallet was gone.
Surveillance video revealed that the next customer in line immediately picked up the wallet and placed it in her own purse. The suspect denied having the wallet when the victim returned.
Investigators today released the surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspect, described as a middle-aged woman with short hair and glasses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lexington Police by calling (859) 258-3600.
