MetroNet joins Mayor Jim Gray to officially activate the city of Lexington

MetroNet today celebrated the official activation of its 100% fiber optic internet, TV and phone services in the City of Lexington at a grand opening ceremony at the company’s new retail location on West Tiverton Way. John Cinelli, the company’s president, was joined by Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and members of the MetroNet executive team as they cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially activate the power of fiber in the city of Lexington.

“This is a first step to making Lexington the nation’s largest gigabit city, with some of the fastest internet speeds in the world,” Gray said. “With MetroNet’s $70 million investment in a fiber-optic network, Lexington will be one of only two cities in the country with state-of-the-art infrastructure across the city.”

In November of 2017, Indiana-based MetroNet responded to Mayor Gray’s initiative to make Lexington the largest gigabit city in the country by announcing plans to start construction. Since January of 2018, the fiber internet company has been hard at work, installing fiber-optic lines in the neighborhoods of Lexington to connect customers to high speed, fiber-optic internet. The company is activating new customers every day.

“We’ve experienced such a warm welcome from Mayor Jim Gray and the city of Lexington since we started this project,” MetroNet President John Cinelli said. “It’s clear that this city is rich in diversity and opportunity and we’re excited to be a part of it as we move forward, and we can’t thank the Mayor and the Council enough for the invitation.”

MetroNet’s new retail storefront in Lexington will serve as the command center for customer service and sales. It is a home base for customers to view service plans and discuss any issues, as well as a place to interact and learn everything there is to know about MetroNet’s services.

The first customers to test MetroNet fiber optic internet, television and phone plans were present at the announcement today and were recognized for their service during the trial phase.

“The high speed internet is unlike any other I’ve experienced in my home, specifically when streaming video on my television,” said Carl Sale, one of MetroNet’s initial beta customers. “I really believe the quality and price of MetroNet services will enhance the growing city of Lexington.”
