Around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, officers were dispatched to the 300-block of Race Street. A shooting victim was located on East Second Street and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by the Fayette County Coroner’s office as 29-year-old Charles Shryock.

Responding patrol officers were able to stop Marvell Lacy and a 16-year-old male, who were seen fleeing the scene on Race Street. Lacy and the juvenile were arrested and each charged with Fleeing/Evading 1st, Criminal Mischief 3rd, and drug charges.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined Lacy and the juvenile were directly connected with the shooting, along with Jemel Barber and another 16-year-old male. A 16-year-old female was identified as the getaway driver.

The investigation revealed that the five suspects had targeted a house on Race Street to commit a robbery. There was an exchange of gunfire in the house and the suspects continued shooting as they fled.

As a result of the extensive investigation, the suspects have been tied to other incidents, including a robbery that occurred in the Winburn neighborhood shortly before the Race Street shooting. (Lacy and the female juvenile are charged in that case.) Investigators had previously charged Barber with Murder in the fatal shooting that occurred July 23 on Versailles Road

Barber is custody in the Scott County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Lacy is lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center. Two of the juveniles are in custody at a juvenile detention center, and officers are actively searching for one of the 16-year-old suspects. Lexington Police is prohibited from releasing the identity of juvenile suspects.
