Summer is here … it’s time to get out and play!
This July, discover the power of play with Lexington Parks & Recreation as the City celebrates Park and Recreation Month.
A variety of activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities, including camping, outdoor concerts, summer basketball and a dive-in movie night.
“We are always striving to help make Lexington a better place to live, work and play,” said Monica Conrad, Lexington Parks & Recreation Director. “Parks provide places to play, get fit and stay healthy, foster new relationships, and connect with nature. They provide essential services that improve quality of life.”
Park and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
Lexington summer activities in our parks include:
- See Raven Run at night and learn new skills for future camping trips.
- Spend time with friends and family at outdoor concerts at MoonDance Amphitheater and Ecton Park or catch a performance of The Wiz at Woodland Park.
- Watch some of the best talent Central Kentucky has to offer during a summer basketball league game at Douglass Park, and don’t miss them showcase their skills on Super Sunday.
- Dive in at Shillito Pool and enjoy the recently released Moana.
NRPA is celebrating the month by hosting a weekly contest encouraging people to show them why play is so important in their lives. Visit www.nrpa.org/July for more information on how to participate. Entries can be submitted via the hashtag #NRPAPlayChallenge. NRPA also encourages all people that support parks and recreation to share why they think play is so important with the hashtag #PlayOnJuly.
