Winburn neighborhood residents are invited to learn about community resources and provide direct feedback to public officials during ONE Lexington’s Winburn Public Safety Day, 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13. Representatives from Lexington Police, Lexington Fire, the Commonwealth’s Attorney office and many other organizations will share information about their services and engage with neighbors about what is needed to enhance safety and quality of life in Winburn.
The family-friendly event will be held outdoors at the Community Action Council center at 1169 Winburn Drive. Free food and drinks will be provided. (In the event of rain, Public Safety Day will be rescheduled.)
Organized by the ONE Lexington Enforcement Team, Public Safety Day aims to build better relationships with the Winburn neighborhood by introducing residents to public safety officials. The ONE Lexington initiative was launched in 2017 in an effort to coordinate, leverage and mobilize city government and community resources in neighborhoods experiencing violent crime.
“Last year’s public safety event was a huge success and many residents in the community have requested we do this event again,” said police officer Brandon Muravchick, a Neighborhood Resource Officer for the Winburn area. “Having events like this help bridge a gap that stands between law enforcement and the community. We want officers and residents to have positive relationships with each other.”
Surveys will be distributed to the attendees to gain their feedback and ideas about enhancing quality of life in their neighborhood.
“Getting to know people where they live and finding out what’s important to them is a must. Our mission of enhancing safety and quality of life in neighborhoods can only be done with residents,” said ONE Lexington Director Laura Hatfield. “We know that communities are safer when trust is built with our law enforcement community.”
