A Lexington Police officer has been involved in an on-duty shooting.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 01, 2021, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Marshall Lane for a report of shots fired. While officers were in route, the Division of Enhanced 911 received additional calls about a subject outside the residence shooting a firearm. An officer arrived and immediately observed gunfire. In response to the subject firing a weapon at the officer, the officer returned fire striking the subject. The officer was not injured.
The subject, a 21-year-old black male, sustained a serious injury to his front shoulder which initially appears to be non-life threatening at the scene. Emergency Care was summoned while on scene officers rendered aid until paramedics transported him to a local hospital.
The subject is currently charged with Burglary 1st, 8 x Wanton Endangerment 1st charges, and 8 x Kidnapping charges. Additional charges are pending.
In accordance with Lexington Police Department policies, the officer had their issued Body Worn Camera activated. The incident is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and the department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review of the incident. The officer will be placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
