Hedgewood Court homicide investigation

The Lexington Police Department has charged a 16-year-old male with Reckless Homicide, Possession of a Handgun by a Minor, and Tampering with Physical Evidence in connection with the death of another teen Tuesday afternoon. Police cannot release the suspect’s name because he is a juvenile.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, officers responded to the area of Woodhill Drive and Hedgewood Court for a shooting. A 16-year-old male suffering a single gunshot wound was found lying on the ground. He was transported to a hospital and later died. The victim’s name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation found that the suspect, victim, and other acquaintances were hanging out on Hedgewood Court when the shooting occurred. Three other teens in that group have also been charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Minor and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The shooting suspect was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon and is lodged in the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
