A new junior golf program is coming to Lexington brought to you by Play Golf Lex and the Gilbert-Bunnell Foundation.
For decades, the Gilbert-Bunnell Foundation has worked to instill the love of golf in younger generations. Working with Play Golf Lex, the two will power an expanded junior golf program for kids ages 7 – 13 years old that will include camps, clinics, after school programs, the Larry Gilbert Jr. Tour and the PGA Jr. League.
“We saw this great opportunity on both sides,” Gilbert-Bunnell Foundation Board Chariman, Todd Sallee said. “Honestly, our missions really aligned. Both organizations have a passion for bringing golf to more youth at an affordable price.”
Over the past decade, golf participation has decreased across the nation, especially among young players. With this new program, golf will be more accessible to young players across Lexington.
“We want to invest in our youth,” Play Golf Lex Services Manager, Curtis Mitchell said. “If we invest in youth right now, we’ll see the benefits in the future.”
To help with the task, Play Golf Lex and the Gilbert-Bunnell Foundation hired Lucas Rose as Junior Golf Director. Both Rose and Mitchell have backgrounds in junior golf.
