Arrest made in Chestnut Street homicide

February 25, 2017 - A Lexington man is under arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred overnight. Investigators with the Lexington Police Department have charged Jesse Ray Nance, Jr., 32, with Murder and Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Around 2:30 a.m., Saturday, February 25, officers responded to the 500-block of Chestnut Street for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival a female victim was located outside with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Officers heard additional shots fired from inside a home and saw Nance armed with a shotgun. Nance dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without incident.

When officers searched the house, they located a 48-year-old male victim deceased from a gunshot wound. His name will be released by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Nance and the male victim knew each other and had been involved in an altercation the day before the shooting.

The investigation into the homicide and the shooting of the female victim just prior are ongoing. Additional charges are possible.
