Sports and fitness

Therapeutic Recreation programs provide opportunities for persons with disabilities to enjoy activities through recreation, leisure and play. Our programs are designed to enhance the overall health and wellness of persons with special needs. TR programs allow participants to showcase their talents and abilities through a variety of recreational opportunities.  

Register online for all of the TR sports and fitness programs ONLINE, unless otherwise noted.  

Lexington Parks & Recreation is committed to safety, as our community works to protect residents from COVID-19. In accordance with state government and CDC guidelines, select Therapeutic Recreation events have been canceled. Adult fitness

Stay healthy and active through a variety of fitness activities and sports. Limited transportation home will be provided.

Ages: 18 and up
Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 21 – May 7 (No class March 31 & April 2)
Time: 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Dunbar Community Center, 545 N. Upper St.
Cost:  $125/$100 scholarship rate

Archery

Learn basic archery safety and skills in this fun, interactive class. Equipment provided (adaptive equipment available). The class is taught by certified instructors. 

Ages: 18 and Over      
Dates: Wednesdays, Jan. 22 – March 11  
Time: 10 – 11:30 a.m.    
Cost: $60/$50 scholarship rate   
Location: Artworks at the Carver Center, 522 Patterson St.

Yoga

Relax, unwind, and learn common yoga techniques in this guided practice.

Ages: 18 and up
Time: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Dates: Wednesdays, March 18 – May 13
Location: Artworks at the Carver School, 522 Patterson St.

Bowling

This program has been canceled. 

Come and enjoy a fun, competitive atmosphere of bowling with friends! Ramps are available.  

Strikes, turkeys and spares are just part of the fun with the TR bowling league. Ramps are available.

Ages: 5 and up
Dates:  Saturdays, Feb. 29 – April 18
Time: 1 – 3 p.m.
Location:  Southland Bowling Lanes, 205 Southland Drive
Cost:  $30 registration plus $6 per week

Horsemanship

Learn the basics of horseback riding. A ramp is available. Note: Participants may not weigh more than 220 pounds. A physician’s exam may be required. Participants are REQUIRED to provide their own ASTM-SEI helmet. No online registration for this class. No make-up classes are available. Call (859) 288-2908 to inquire which class to select.

Golf

Enjoy learning the basics of golf through adaptive techniques and guided practice. 

Ages: 13 and up
Dates: Fridays, March 31 – May 1

Miracle League Baseball

An accessible baseball league for individuals with disabilities. 

Ages:  18 and over      
Dates: Tuesdays, April 14 – May 19
Time:  11 a.m. –  2:30 p.m.
Location: Shillito Park

Adaptive Aquatics

This class has been canceled. 

Learn basic water skills/safety through group and one-on-one instruction. Applicable participants must wear swim diapers/plastic pants. Parents/Caregivers may be required to assist in the water and should come prepared with swim attire. 

Ages: 4 and over
Dates: Mondays, March 2 – April 27 (No class March 30)
Cost: $70/$60 scholarship rate
Location: Beaumont YMCA, 3251 Beaumont Centre Circle

Adaptive kayaking

Our adaptive kayaking program is designed for individuals with physical disabilities. Family members and friends are welcome to participate. Must RSVP, complete waivers, required paperwork, and pass Essential Eligibility Criteria established by the American Canoe Association.

Time: 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Location: Jacobson Park Boat Dock
Cost: $5 per day
